"Career Oportunities in Art"
revised edition
by Susan H Haubenstock and David Joselit

This book covers a wide range of jobs in the visual art field.
The majority of this book (170 pages out of 190) covers over 80 specific jobs. So pretty much everything is covered.

Each job is covered in about 1.5 pages and talks about the following catagories:
* Position Description
* Salaries
* Employment Prospects
* Advancement Prospects
* Prerequisites: Education, Experience, Social Skills
* Orgaznizations and Associations
* Tips for Entry

The last 20 pages of the book has some handy appendixes. Skip over the first five pages with schools (there are better books for this). But then it has nice lists of Scholarships, Grants, and Loans. The Organizations and Associations list is also very full. I love the list of art/design periodicals. Too bad they don't list their websites, perhaps that may be something to look forward to in the next edition due out in 2001.

The copyright on the this book is 1994, so it is missing a few jobs like web designer. The salary ranges are still seem fairly on track, but I'd notch 'em up a bit. But I'm sure that all this will be covered in the April 2001 edition.

SUMMARY
I would recommend this book for the student or someone looking for a career change. With its wide gamut of options, this book is good for starting your career in art. The highly structured format makes it easy to navigate and read the book. The appendixes in the back are also very useful.

Wrik Repasky's recent works investigate the human tendency to succumb to convention while striving to assert one's individuality. He reveals this paradox within the expression of persona through a highly complex printmaking method. Repasky utilizes a computer to digitally create color seperations from original photographic portraits and figural images. The four separate layers--cyan, magenta, yellow and black--and then carefully arranged and printed out of register to create an illustion of distortion. The meticously choreographed lack of clarity within these compositions reflects Repasky's interest in the conflation of order and chaos in the projection of personality
