________________________________________________ 1. Subject: this weekend From: Joanna Goebel Sent: Monday, April 30, 2001 8:49 AM Hey all, here is a leetle reminder that the Anchor Graphics 11th Anniversary Benefit & Art Auction is coming up this Saturday, May 5th, from 7pm - 12:30am. We'll be auctioning off works by local and national artists, including works by Red Grooms, Karl Wirsum, the Zhou Brothers, Laurie Hogin (she does those angry bunnies), and Leon Golub, among many others. We will also be auctioning off dinners at fine art galleries with five illustrious (and in some cases, illustrative) artists, including Ed Paschke, Tony Fitzpatrick, Dan Ramirez, Paul Sierra, and Scott Olson. Winners of the "Dinner With the Artist" auction will spend an evening dining and sharing stimulating conversation with five of their closest friends and one of these fascinating artists. There will also be a raffle for items such as framing certificates from Artists' Frame Service, gift boxes from Pearl Art and Craft, a free Shiatsu massage session, a free hour of sex therapy, and lots of other goodies. Guests will enjoy delicious food and drink, a live DJ, and dancing and revelry following the auction. Tickets to the benefit are $30 in advance and $35 at the door. Also, as trustworthy friends of mine, if any of you wish to volunteer some time at the event for the good of this fine non-profit organization (selling raffle tickets, wrapping art, etc.), you will be given free admission in return. This means you get all of the above, for free. I went to this event last year, and it was a lot of fun, especially if you're an artist! We graciously accept anyone's assistance, so don't be shy. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me at home or at work! Joanna Work: 312.595.9598 Home: 773.779.6597 ________________________________________________ 2. Subject: fun stuff...Pigeons Appreciate Art From: "Maldre, Matthew" <MMaldre@Tribune.com> Date: Mon, 30 Apr 2001 13:05:42 -0500 DISCERNING PIGEONS: A Japanese professor of cognitive science "has managed to get pigeons to recognize whether a painting is a van Gogh or a Chagall - even if they had never seen it before. He trained three pigeons for a month by showing them on a computer screen eight masterpieces by van Gogh and Chagall. Pigeons were fed when they pecked at pictures by van Gogh. They received nothing when pecking at a Chagall." Discovery 04/29/01 http://www.artiwu.org/links/goto/010501_pigeons.html |
