Subject: January show
Date: Tue, 16 Nov 1999 12:35:06 -0500
From: Vince Fournier <vfournie@titan.iwu.edu>

Hello everyone,
I wanted to personally encourage all students and alumni to visit the Merwin and Wakeley Galleries in January. From January 14th to February 3rd, the Galleries will be exhibiting work by five young artists from St. Louis. These artists are graduate students from Washington University.

I feel that this show is a must for students considering graduate school as well as those who are attempting to make fine art their livelihood. An artist's talk has not yet been scheduled, but further notices will be posted. Please consider attending the show. Thank you.

Vince

Subject: iwu print sale (faculty prints for sale)
Date: Mon, 29 Nov 1999 16:05:43 -0600 (CST)
From: brooke mcdermott <bmcdermo@sun.iwu.edu>

My name is Brooke Mcdermott and i'm the current president of Kappa Pi. On Friday we will be holding our annual print sale, and this year we convinced all the faculty to design and donate prints to sell there. We are selling them individually for twenty dollars or in a set for a $100. This means each set would contain six faculty prints. (they are all really individualistic and fun).

I was talking with Connie Wells this afternoon and she mentioned that Chris Grodoski (a fellow alum) was interested in buying a set of faculty prints. Then we got to thinking that most of the alums have not been notified about the sale, and they would probably be some of the most interested.

The sale runs on Friday, Dec. 3rd from 12 noon to 6pm. It's in the print room in the art building.

There will be a ceramics sale going on as well. Students will be selling their own prints too.

And if anyone is intrested in buying a set and cannot make it on Friday they can e-mail me at bmcdermo@sun.iwu.edu or Connie at cwells@titan.iwu.edu

Subject: Use the internet to find a job

From: Matt Maldre <matt@spudart.org>

I'm currently looking for a new design (or art) job in Chicago and using the internet to search. During the coffeehouse, I didn't really touch on the details of using the internet to find a job. So here's what I've found:
(All of the following are free services)

JOBS FOR CHICAGOLAND: good
UPDATED: daily
POST RESUME: yes
NOTES: The major spot where employers and recruiters will look at your posted resume on their website. The site does tell you how many employers have looked at your resume. Employeers pay to view resumes on this site, so unfortunately you won't be able to see what other people are doing for there resumes. Some people stick up just a text file. I've gotten fancy with mine. If you want to know how to do a fancy monster.com resume, email me at: matt@spudart.org I have gotten many phone calls and emails from this source. Definitely use monster.

JOBS FOR CHICAGOLAND: good
UPDATED: every thurs and sunday
POST RESUME: yes
NOTES: The major printed and on-line source for Chicago and suburb jobs. I find looking through the website to be a bit time consuming--they have too many categories. I'd look through the physical paper (sunday edition). I haven't had any luck with the resume posting on their website. I haven't seen any fine art jobs here--ever. Isn't that weird? (check out www.chireader.com)

JOBS FOR CHICAGOLAND: good

POST RESUME: none
NOTES: Another good place to look for jobs. A little step below monster.com in number of listings for design, but still a viable source. I haven't seen any jobs for the fine arts here.

JOBS FOR CHICAGOLAND: good
UPDATED: every thursday
POST RESUME: no
NOTES: You may find the more interesting art jobs here. I guess I would say this is the best source for art jobs. The Reader is a liberal paper geared for the young city audience. Their hard copy paper is very hard to read--it is very unorganized. Go to their website and click on the "view all jobs".
(If you are in a rush: Copy and paste it into a word processing program. Do a word search for keywords you are interested in--Like "design". Unfortunately, a search on "art" will get you alot of sweatmonkey design jobs called "graphic artist".) I personally just take my time and look through all of them.

JOBS FOR CHICAGOLAND: rare
UPDATED: weekly
POST RESUME: none
NOTES: Despite the rare listings for Chicago, it is still a great source for the few fine art jobs available in Chicago. There are listings here that you will not find elsewhere. You can subscribe to this and get the listings via a weekly email.
